Anastasiades calls for unity and struggle to end the occupation
Sunday’s anniversary of Turkey`s second offensive against Cyprus must serve as an important landmark in efforts to end the continuing Turkish occupation of the Republic`s northern part, President Nicos Anastasiades said in a message he posted on his personal account on twitter.
“Forty-two years later, let the anniversary of Turkey`s second invasion serve as a landmark for unity and a struggle to terminate the occupation,” he wrote.
In his official written statement to the press, he said: “The 42nd anniversary of the second invasion, finds our country still divided and the citizens of our country lacking basic human rights. This leaves us no room for complacency and impels us, through the negotiations underway, to seek an agreement that will end the occupation and impose a solution within the framework of UN resolutions and European law.”
“With faith in our strength, stability to our principles and confident we will continue this effort.”
